30til30: day 13, marrying my love

i have 30 days until i celebrate my 30th year of life. i thought i would share with you 30 people, events and situations that have shaped my life and who i want to be. it has been very challenging to come up with 30…i hope it inspires you as it has me. this part of the list is in no particular order.

day 13: marrying my love

there have been a small handful of specific days over the last 30 years that have changed my life. one day that i wouldn’t trade for the world has been marrying my love and best friend, michael.

we got married on a beautiful december day five years ago. for a midwest winter day, the weather was perfect: sunny and in the 50s. we were young and didn’t understand enough to know that we didn’t yet love each other. not really, anyway. but it was the single happiest day of my life.

the day is somewhat a blur. i got ready at the church with my sisters and bride’s maids. i didn’t see michael until my dad walked me down the aisle. and then, all i saw was him. our pastor spoke about finding fulfillment first in Christ so that we could love and serve each other. we said some vows. lit a candle. kissed.

and then the party began.

michael and i often talk about how much fun we had at our reception. how every wedding we've attended since has paled in comparison to the fun we had at our wedding. it wasn’t anything fancy, but we were surrounded by all the people we loved most. and we knew everyone there. everyone, all 200-something-odd people, were promising to love and support us and help us as we figured out this new relationship.

we’ve certainly not been without struggles or disagreements. but, marrying this man has been the second best decision i’ve ever made (stay tuned for the best decision…). he challenges me. he sharpens me. he loves me. he is more than i ever dreamed possible in a husband.

i am blessed to be his.

i love you, babe.

Dearest Katherine,
The day of your and Michael's wedding was a mountaintop day for me too!!!!
And I had one of the best seats for the ceremony. I'd just had a personal triumph in that I didn't bawl being escorted to my place. I remember how quickly the moments passed for you and your dad to made it down the aisle....I wanted to savor that excitement longer. How radiant and beautiful you and Michael both were with eyes only for each other. (pause now, to clear some tears from eyes).
And then the reception!!! It was the best time rejoicing in your union: with the dancing, the incredible dessert choices, and you are so right, the joy of being with all the loved ones, family and friends. (I still thank the Lord, for our friends, Betsy and Sharon, who stepped in to fix the reception oversight! I remember standing in foyer of church just before being seated thinking how odd it was to see these gals running late toward the church and come to find out they had been our "reception angels" for they had done some last minute decorating.)
Yes, your wedding day was an absolutely GLORIOUS time. One of the best days of my life.
Love,
Mom-in-law

Although I don't think I've commented lately, I've really been enjoying your "30 til 30" series. It's always great to hear about what people, events, and specific things have impacted others' lives.

Hey! We're looking forward to seeing you and Michael again (hopefully soon?). If you end up getting your double jogging stroller soon, I'd be interested in buying your single. My goal is to start running again on June 1st, so I'd like to have one to use this summer. So...if you wouldn't mind, just check with me when you are ready to sell...if I haven't found one yet, I'd like to buy yours. Thanks!!
